Lunt Solar Systems

About Lunt Solar Systems…

Lunt Solar Systems designs and manufactures a large array of products for the enjoyment of solar astronomy, from H-alpha solar filters that can fit on the front end of your own celestial telescope to large H-alpha telescopes suited for an educational facility or organization.  Located in Tucson, Arizona (the perfect place for any hobby that includes the SUN!) the Lunt team constantly strives to offer high quality instruments for a reasonable price.  Their telescopes and filters are so popular that it is hard to keep them in stock at OPT.

Booth Highlights…

Andy Lunt & our girl, Rikki, will escape the heat of Tucson, Arizona for a weekend and spend some time in coastal San Diego!  H-alpha telescopes and filters will be on display, and if the Sun plays along, we’ll all get a chance to do some solar viewing.

SCAE Prize Donation…

The Lunt Solar Systems LS60THa H-Alpha Telescope, valued at $1,596,  is a refractor-based system that starts off with a 60mm precision aligned singlet lens with a focal length of 500mm. Inside this custom-made refractor, you’ll find an internal etalon with pressure tuner adjustment which allows for a maximum of <0.75 Angstrom bandpass. You’ll get a sharp, crisp ~4.5mm image through its 6mm blocking filter, revealing excellent details on both the solar surface, limb edge, flares and prominences.

The Lunt Solar Eyepiece series(3x), valued at $500, are coated with the same 0.1% anti-reflective coatings as on their h-alpha etalons. The anti-reflective coatings reduce ghosting and glow and aid in providing darker background. They also excel at lunar and planetary viewing – as well as terrestrial objects.
